Dell 2405WFP for cable and satellite TV?

Hi,

I thought to purchase a Dell 2405WFP for working and replace by it my old CRT TV as well (saving space in my really tiny flat). The display should be connected to a cable TV set top box and a Windows XP Media Center 2005 computer.

I've found some worrying posts about bad TV quality when connecting via s-video and composite cables (as the case of my not HD signal set-top box).

Can you comment on it? Is it really so bad from 6.5 feet (2 metres) viewing distance?

Get a real LCD tv, people here think otherwise than me however.

I want an LCD TV that is brighter, and is to be viewed more than 3 feet away compared to a monitor. You can always hook LCD TV's to your monitor too, but some here would hate the quality.

The incoming SDTV signal IS bad to begin with - and a good monitor will reveal that. This is why HDTV was invented to begin with ...

I have never viewed component inputs on my 2405, but I'll say this much: using an ATI tuner card to capture and encode analog cable signals for display on my monitor looks as good from normal viewing distance as my Toshiba CRT television. That's with a DVI connection.

A lot of the complaints about NTSC analog image quality probably come from people who are viewing it at normal desktop monitor distances. Even the best television looks like crap from 24" away too. At a viewing distance of eight feet or so it looks great.

Component should look just fine if it's from a decent source. Composite and S-Video are bound to be really smudgy on such a big screen like that.

i only have the 2005fp but composite & s-video look fine. i was using a vcr to tune in cable channels and using s-video for gamecube input. it looks fine.
