Dell 2405FPW + Monitor Scaling

First question.. I'm currently using a Viewsonic VA2012wb 20.1inc widescreen monitor using the DVI connection. However, whenever I try to use any form of scaling other than the default it doesn't work correctly (like if I wanted to run in 1280x1024 with black bars on a 1680x1050 native monitor). Is it because I'm using DVI?

Also, lately I've been considering buying a Dell 2405FPW. I ordered a 7900GTX and I think it'd be a good pair. But first I was wondering about the monitor scaling issue, although I haven't read of anyone having problems with the 2405. Whats the viewable area like running 1600x1200 on the 2405 with black bars? Basically like a regular 20inc LCD with a 1600x1200 native? If someone would be so kind as to post pictures of a game in 1600x1200 on the 2405FPW, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

It works perfectly over DVI on the 2405FPW, and does exactly what you'd expect it to do when you tell it to do it. When you tell it to do 1:1, it does 1:1. When you tell it to scale keeping the aspect ratio (say for 1024x768), it's pillarboxed. When set to 1600x1200 it uses the full vertical resolution and chops off (1920-1600)/2 columns off the left and right edges.
