Doing a search for the 2405FPW on ebay.com reveals some featured auctions where the sellers are offering brand new, sealed 2405FPW for $400 or $500 shipped if you e-mail them. They have good feedback, but should one be leery of a deal like this? Could they be a scam?

if its too good to be true, then it probably is fake.

remember ebay feedback doesn't mean all that much. a person can open 30 accounts and have them leave good feedback on $0.01 transactions himself

Definitely a scam. You should report them to eBay as that is against eBay's rules. I believe they are trying to get you to pay not through eBay.
Also this is the wrong forum.

A lot of times a seller will appear legit b/c the scammer could have hijacked an account from a reputable seller. I would just wait for a Dell deal, not worth loosing your hard earned money.

big scam. I think the one that is scammed the most is the Pioner AVICD1 Navigation system. about 90% of them want you to buy through email. However i think most of these accounts were hijacked though

I had the same thing a few months back, someone offering a Dell 9300 for $600 fully loaded, they probably want you to send them a money order and they will offer to ship via DHL, in fact they will even send you a fake message from DHL saying they have your product. I reported all of this to ebay and FBI consumer fraud but they don't care.

Keep practicing this silly little internet thing and eventually you'll get it right. If you can't even manage to figure out a simple forum, I would suggest avoiding ebay and email all together.

A lot of these scams are not on US soil Canada Mexico and Europe. Not just ebay scams but scams in general so a lot of times if you?re taken you have no recourse. Just right it off as a learning experience I say. And if your scammed in Mexico it?s the Canadians that did it

See if they'll C.O.D. it. If so, you've got nothing to loose. I'd test it before the UPS guy leaves though.

Yes, yes, the consensus here is that it is a scam, which is what I suspected. Perhaps the monitors are stolen, or don't work, or you get an empty box. I just wanted some confirmation. Also, I was not sure which forum this thread should go into. Which forum does it belong in?

Well, a potential scam isn't a "Hot Deal", I'd say Off Topic would have been more appropriate. This forum is more for confirmed deals that you find out there. If there WERE $500 2405's that would be hot.

I'm buying a 2005FPW off of ebay for about $400 shipped, which is not too good to be true, but I can't wait any longer! :p

BTW it's A02 revision, has 3 year warranty, is NIB, they have high feedback, I can pay through PP, and it's all done by ebay. It's not a scam right?

The best deal I heard on a 2405FPW is the Google employee discount, ~$700-800. The catch of course is you work at Google or know someone there.

Sounds like a scam to me. That "email me off site" stuff is highly frowned on by Ebay.

I have a rule of thumb, if I can't afford to lose the money I'm spending on the item, I don't purchase it on ebay UNLESS I can pick it up, to date, I've never been ripped off on Ebay and I've bought hundreds of things on it, including 2 cars ($3150 and $4800), a motorcycle ($1700), roughly 25 used servers, and loads of other stuff, no rip offs ever.
