I am seriously considering getting one of these monitors. However, I would like to see it before I buy it (thanks to my previous Dell LCD purchase, the screen door from hell 2001fp)

Does any store show this lcd in action?

Also, does a single link dvi (Ti4200) have the ability to display the monitor at 1920x1200 or is dual link required? I would imagine that single link would work but I have found contridicting information.

what does reduced blanking do to the image quality / response time?

Dual Link isn't required but I don't know if your Vid can display at that res. As for wether you can see it in a store, unlikely since no store sells dells as a true reseller finding a store that might have one is going to be hard.

best bet would be to find someone locally that has one, since Dell doesn't have a store to go to. Not sure about the Ti4200 being able to drive it though. I can only tell you that buying the 2405 was probably one of the best investments I've ever made in my computing life - its totally gorgeous.

Frankly I do not personally think the 4200 is up to running the monitor adequately at native resolution. You *may* be able to get it to work, but it would not be an ideal setup.

the resolution is under the max resolution listed for the card, why would there be a problem?

A Ti4200 should be able to run it at native resolution in 2D and basic 3d programs but dont expect anything when running complex 3D games as FPS. My old 9500p could barely do it even with all the details turned down.

I don't know of a place you can see one in action, but once you do, you'll get one.
Next to each other, the 2001FP looked inferior (and I was more than happy with it until the moment the 2405 turned on, too...)

I don't think you can see it in a store but I hada 2001FP that I also noticed the screen door effect on and the 2405 does NOT have that.

I don't know really what reduced blank interleaving does for image quality but the 2405 over all looks much better than both 2001FP's I have used.
The 2405 is also GREAT for gaming, and response time IMO is not a problem.

encouraging words, thanks

I really would like to purchase it but I would have to use a reduced resolution with my video card for anything 3d. Have you experienced anything at lower than the native resolution? Does it look ok? I play wolf:et at a lower resolution on my 19" lcd and it looks fine.

The 2405 has the ability to crop off the sides (leave black bars) for games that aren`t wide screen, right?

If you live in the NY/NJ/PA area, there's a Dell Outlet in North Jersey that you could check out. Go to the website for the address. I believe it's very close to their shipping warehouse.

dude, take a risk. Even though there's not much here, since so many people have sworn by these monitors (myself included). The worst that can happen is that humming noise or a pixel or two out, which you can return. The 2405 is fracking sweet. Nothing else I have ever seen compares.

2405fpw RULES!!!!!!!!!!! you will not be disappointed

hah

well I am slightly weary because the 23 and 30 inch apple displays looked a bit hazy to me and they are supposed to be top of the line.

I wouldn`t want to spend that kind of money on something that doesn`t look as good (or hopefully better) than my L90D+

Right.
I think, after you get it, you'll apologize to your monitor for doubting it.
Truly, I'm a fanboi of this thing.

to be honest, if all u wanna do is surf then you'll be fine, if however you wanna game on it my advice would be to upgrade your graphics card too.....preferably something with 256Mb of ram onboard, the bigger the ressy your card is handling the more memory you need.....altho if your 4200Ti is the 128Mb version it may not be so bad....mine was the 64Mb version and games wont look good on a monitor the size your running..lol..
remember, if you lower the resolution, it may run a bit faster but it will look more poo than poo remembers being poo.......heh

seriously, why do u want such a big monitor when your running a bottom end graphics engine? 19in should suit you fine.....if u can stretch to the monitor moneywise, surely u can stretch to the new graphics card too?....cheap AGP cards abound nowadays....

I want a larger monitor because I use my computer for many hours each day. Programming to web surfinf to researching, extra screen real estate is important to me.

What cheap AGP card can handle this lcd? It seems like I need a 6600gt or better

I ordered a refurb. ATI x800xtpe from the ATI store for $233 shipped. I already have a 6800GT and x800pro vivo but ordered it as a spare. It looks like it is going to take 3 to 4 weeks to get it but the price can't be beat. ATI will warranty it for 3 years. This is the best you can do with the generation-old technology and it will certainly drive the 2405.

Here is the link. Use the coupon code 1485 for a 5% discount at checkout. You will not be charged until the card ships.

http://shop.ati.com/searchresults.asp?dept_id=39

EDIT: I just went to the link and the x800pro is the only one available now for $199.

Newegg also has a Leadtek vanilla 6800 for $129 + $4 S&H. You can take your chances and try to unlock the extra 4 or 8 pipes.

This is hilarious. I am running the 2405 on a Geforce2 at 1900 X 1200 with no issue. (My 9600pro went kaput the day, yes, the day, before the 2405 arrived. (Yes I have a 7800GTX on the way (along with X2).
