Dell 2405 - LCD Dead or Stuck Question

I got a Dell 2405 24" Widescreen Ultrasharp LCD the other week. About 2 1/2 or 3 weeks after getting, I noticed there is a single pixel in the dead freaking center of the screen that is either dead or stuck (it looks either grey or solid amber in color at all times)

Does anyone know:

A) Is there any way to fix this

B) What Dell's policy for repair or replacement is ?

I'd like to know people's experiences and suggestions before I call tech support to start bitching. Considering the thing cost $700, I am NOT going to accept the old "dead pixels are normal and part of the process and not a manufacturing defect" ... but before I turn into Angry Consumer (tm), I'd like to know whether they'll just take care of it.

you got one for $700? Well as far as I know you can return it and risk receiving a refurb or a completely new one.

If you're within your 21 day return period you can return it no questions asked for a refund or exchange. If you are passed that period then I don't think a single pixel falls into Dells warranty agreement for servicing.

Yes - it was on sale as part of an "Outrageous Deal" package, along with a 9100. I figured it out as costing about $699 versus buying it seperately.

Dell's official policy can be found here:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/...ument?dn=1018431&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

"If you notice more than six (6) fixed pixels on your display, or if there are several fixed pixels in a small area of the screen, refer to the E-mail Dell section under Additional Information to contact Dell Technical Support."

Dell is reputedly pretty good with their customer support, but it's been a while since you've gotten it, so good luck.

the most important thing you can do is to be calm and patient on the phone but speak with authority........if you only have one dead pixel they are, sadly, not obliged to replace it according to the terms and conditions you signed when buying it......
however, if dealt with calmly, its quite possible they will agree as the pixel is dead centre.....presuming its noticeable easily....if from a distance of a couple foot it is not noticable then they may say no unless you use it for a professional reason.....but then you should have bought it tax exempt through their business dept....erk...oh well, good luck anyhow......another reason to stay with CRT....no dead pixels...heh ;-)

It took you a couple of weeks to notice it? I would call and see what they can do but I wouldn't be suprised if they say no.

I had this happen to me.

Tell them that you do video editing and can not have dead pixels in the center of your screen.

Rage - that's exactly what I plan on doing - thanks. As it just so happens, I do do video editing, which is why the location is such a problem.
