Dell 2405 & 2005

I currently have a 2005 and am thinking about getting the 2405 for another system. My question is in regard to the the 2405's ability to just "hook up and run". When I recieved my 2005 last year it was just a matter of plugging it in and away you go. But due to the nature of the 2405, are there any "requirements" that need to be in place before it will operate (hardware...). I am hoping it will be similar to the 2005 and you can simply set it up and take off. Are there any adjusts that need to made within your system to make it work also?

thanks

give me your 2005?

...hope your video card can run the resolution? dont think its that much different except for size 😛

I have a bfg 6800 ultra...due to the size will that have an effect on gaming since it requires more to run the resolution?
I have another one for the next computer but was looking at the 2405 and not sure if everything will work with it. Would really like to get rid of vid card and get a 7800 but i might be stuck with it...

thanks

2d applications at the 2405's native resolution should be no problem for most cards out there. Gaming at the native resolution is a different story - you need a more poweful card to do that.

That being said, however, I hardly ever am able to game at 1600x1200 on my 2001FP and everything still looks fine. don't be hung up on thinking you always have to run at the monitor's native resolution.

What you can't run 1600x1200 with your setup? Running fine here in everything. If frames get below 50 or so just turn down the AA.

HL2 got a little choppy at some points, I think. But its a pretty new system to me and I haven't gamed much with it. In fact, one of the first things I did when I got it was fire up HL2, turn the rez up to 16x12 and turned on AA and AF (which I had never even thought about turning on before). That's when it ran a little choppy. Maybe I need to just run at 16x12 with no AA/AF and see how that goes...

The 2405FPW is exceptional even when running non-native resolutions. I wouldn't worry about having to game at lower resolutions, which you will if you want much eye candy, even with a 6800 Ultra.

ok, noobie question but i want to know... most of the time i run my 2005 at, 1280 x 768. When I go into the nvidia options i have the choice of 1152 x 864 and 1280 x 1024. I have messed with these settings when I play bf2 and it doesn't seem to affect anything ( using renderer.draw 1) i get the same fps. BF2 video options does not have resolution choices that high. Without looking I think the highest choice is 1180 x 784 (just an approximate guess). Anyway does the game program override the settings u apply from the nvidia properties menu? Hope someone answers

by the way what is the native resolution for a 2005 and should I be running it at that level to get the best out of the LCD. I run it at 1280 x 768 due to the fact that thats the easiest for to read text (for me). I could probably run it higher, just take a matter or time getting use to it and I have played with the control + and control - for text size.

thanks
