1. no, it matters just on resolution, not on screen size

2. 24" is 1900x1200 native

17" is 1280x1024 native

you're going to have to play the 24" in a 16:10 widescreen ratio, and i can tell you that LCDs do not look that great at resolutions that are not their native resolution, especially in games (i have 2 LCDs : 15" laptop at 1400x1050 and 20" lcd at 1680x1050)

if you run at the lcd optimal resolution you'll notice a huge performance hit do the math 1280x1024 (default 19" lcd) compared to 1920x1200 means the card is pumping 993,280 more pixels getting close to twice the resolution of your 19" lcd. if you run at a lower resolution you'll notice slight picture distortion or you can run it some games in a window to avoid performance hits to run at a more suitable resolution.

You can run at lower (and non-widescreen) resolutions quite easily if you scale the image proportionally. You'll have black-bands on both sides of the screen where you re not using it, but the image will look good, and the game will run faster.

1920x1200=2.3 Mil Pixels
1280x1024=1.31 Mil Pixels

So you see, your video card will have to work quite a bit harder under the UWXGA mode. Also, not many game has native UWXGA support.

Yup, but it might not look as sharp and good as it is on the smaller screen.

The image does not HAVE to be stretched. You have a choice of stretching it (proportional or non-proportional) or not stretching it at all. If you do not stretch at all, it will look every bit as good as on a 19" LCD, with the same performance. However with games, proportional stretching of the image doesn't look too bad.

Assuming your using the DVI connection, and any recent NVidia video card driver, your video card driver will give you the choice of:

Display Adapter Scaling (stretch to whole screen)
Centered Output (No scaling whatsoever)
Monitor Scaling (stretch to whole screen)
Fixed Aspect ratio Scaling (Proportional stretch)

Fixed Aspect Ratio is recommended, but you can use centered output is you don't want the image stretched at all.

My Dell 2405 looks fine at lower resolutions such as 1680x1050 or 1280x768. I notice no interpolation.
