Dell 21" Monitor - P1100. Is it a Sony? Compare to F500R

Sorry if a similar topic comes through as well. Looks like my last post didn't make it though.

Anyway, the short version this time is that I'm thinking about buying the Dell P1100 monitor when I buy my next server. The monitor won't actually run with my server, it'll run on one of my other machines, probably the one with the G400. I'm looking for any information on this tube and how it compares to other monitors out there. Price is in the ballpark - I'm not worried about a few hundred dollars difference.

Basically I'm considering this monitor or the F500R. From what I've heard, the F500R seems to be the best 21" flat monitor out there, if a bit overpriced. But the Dell has dual inputs in the back, which is also a nice feature.

Any input? Also, anybody have a clue if this is the same tube of monitor as the HP P1100 (not the printer) or the Compaq P1100? Odd that they use the same model number if not.

Anyway, would appreciate any advice about this Dell or any other advice about the F500R. I plan to purchase one sometime soon.

Also, (last question, I promise!) anybody here have personal experience with Atacom? resellerratings comments aren't great even though they have a semi-decent rating... The F500R is cheapest there at the moment.

ok great thanks for the advice... a couple questions though:

1) sony's website still lists the f500r at about $200 more expensive than the f520 (same on ibuyer). But from what I can see, the monitors look nearly identical. The 520 has a bit higher max refresh rate at max resolution, plus the USB hub.

What's the deal? Am I missing something? Why isn't the newer model more expensive?

2) anybody actually have the fw500? It looks very sweet and all, but I'd like to hear from people who are actually using it... how's it work with games that don't have a widescreen size to them? It would be amazing for my desktop usage (80%) but for games, I want to make sure it'll handle everything well...

Thanks again jamison for pointing out the new monitor...

i bet the dell monitor is simply a rebadged sony. if it says "trinitron" on it then it definitly is. my p991 is just a sony g400 that says "dell." even the buttons along the bottom are the same.

but the Dell P991 doesn't have the dual video inputs like the G400. My IBM P96 also has dual inputs and is also an FD Trinitron monitor. You could also check out the IBM P260 if you are looking for a 21" FD Trinitron monitor w/dual inputs.

Everyone that I have heard of using the 24" Widescreen, say it is simply the best out there, even a Mitsubishi Monitor fan said that. :D

If you have the money definately go with the Widescreen. :)

The aspect ratio is definitely queer, though. You'll think people were showing you fat pics all the time.

The Dell P1110 (you have the model number wrong), the IBM P260, and the Sony G500 all use the same tube (21" Sony FD Trinitron, .24 dot pitch). I'm not sure about the HP but I'm guessing the model number is 1110 as well and will probably have the same tube. Yes, the Dell has two inputs as well, not sure if the others do. The display controls are a little different but the tube and picture quality are identical.
