Greetings,

I might be able to get a decent $ for my current Dell/Sony/Trinitron 21" CRT monitor. If I were to sell, I need to replace it. So, I am thinking about a 17" LCD.

If I did indeed decide on an LCD, what would be a good replacement with the following potential hurdles:

-If need be, I might not have enough $$ to upgrade my current video card, which works fine. Asus GeForce V7100 32MB AGP.

-What kind of desktop space am I going to loose coming from the 21"?

-For someone that has never owned or used an LCD much, what are the biggest hurdles if at all with the switch?

Any other opinins would be much appreciated. BTW, I don't game that much. Maybe Grand Prix Legends and a few other autoracing games, but not obessively.

Thank you!

What resolution do you run on the 21"?

As you are probably aware, LCDs tend to have an "ideal" resolution. 15" or smaller LCDs are usually 1024x768; 1280x1024 for 17/18/19", and the Dell 20" LCD boasts 1600x1200. I'm sure there are a few exceptions here and there, so do a little research on the model you intend to buy.

My 17" LCD is a cheap Kogi one I got for $280. It actually works great, and runs at a 1280x1024 rez. The biggest hurdle for me was playing games on it. I still use my CRT for that.

I went from a Dell P1110 21" FD Trinitron to a Dell 1800FP 18" LCD (using DVI).....no regrets. I play GTA3 VC, UT2K3, and watch DVD movies w/out any noticable ghosting.

You are INSANE if you're thinking about upgrading FROM a $500 monitor to something else... when you're using a GEFORCE 2 MX. I used to have the same card, back in the P3 era.

Maybe he doesn't use it for games?

Going from a 21" CRT to a 17" LCD is not an upgrade. It's quite a collosal downgrade, not worth thinking about.

In fact, even going from a 17" CRT to a 17" LCD would be a major downgrade.

$210 US. Perf condition.

How much to have it shipped to Brooklyn?

BTW, you won't find a 17" LCD anywhere near that cheap, and even if you did, the switch would be a bad idea.
