Dell 2099WA serious problems

After seeing all those raving reviews on this monitor, I decided to get one.

Now, I'm thinking I must have been unfortunate enough to get a dud panel, because no other monitor of this model could possibly receive such high regard if they were performing the same as mine.

Color transition is appalling.*
Color banding.*

EDIT: It seems that the color profile was the culprit behind these 2 problems.
I wasn't aware color profile could cause so much fuss.

Screen uniformity is noticeably un-uniform. On a solid color, there's an obvious light to dark gradient going from left to right.
Noise/grain is present on solid colors.

So far, the only thing this monitor does better than my old Samsung 2232BW is the viewing angle.

I'm a little bit irritated about this.

Once my camera has charged, I'll see if I can capture the effects on photo.

EDIT: *Ok, on further inspection. It appears that it's only in Photoshop that this color banding and bad color transition happens, but I'm not 100% sure about this, it's very strange.
EDIT: Next I opened up Adobe Illustrator, checked out the color palette on each monitor and to my surprise, there's the same color banding on both monitors.

Now this is getting complicated, but at least I think I can say it's not the fault of the 2209wa....
