I am packing this stand back into the Dell box on the styrofoam and I push the post down thinking that was what I needed to fit it back in.
That was wrong so I tried to lengthen it again but I can't push the button in to raise the thing. I tried lightly knocking it on my desk.
I can't fit this back in the box like this.

Yes, push down on the screen from the top, then press the back button and it should release so you can raise it. It's a bit tricky at first but you get the hang of it, and they're using the same stand/mechanism on all of their adjustable screens so once you can do it on one (eg a 1704fp), you can do it on all of them (eg 2005fpw, 2405fpw, etc).

thanks that was easy...sigh..I wish I didn't have to get rid of this 2 - 3 weeks after buying it.
It was nice having two monitors but I need $$.

Yeah, owning two can be an expensive endeavour.

If you want to run dual monitors and have them more or less match up, a 17" LCD with an adjustable stand works great as a second screen to the 2005fpw.

I run a Samsung 710T (also DVI) next to my 2005fpw, and they match up almost perfectly - pixel size is virtually identical, and the height is almost the same - 1050 pixels vs 1024 pixels. Besides, I think I'd find two 2005fpw's side by side to be too wide ;) .

chickens, eggs, hatching...you know the drill.
I have the HP A7217A CRT that was cheaper than the Dell, but I couldn't stop the Dell order in time.
