yesterday, i connected my dell 2005fpw to my macbook's video output using the dvi-d adapter.

i got screen output, but the output has an overwhelming red-ish tint. i tried changing the color profiles, adjusting the color profiles, adjusting the monitor's settings, but still no luck.

any ideas what's goin' on here?

It's an older panel. I have one too that I still use. I have a similar issue.

The chemicals are getting old in the panel, that's what's causing your issue. You didn't describe it completely but if it's spotty or hit and miss, then it's the chemicals otherwise some part of the electronics are broken/also old. I use mine as a 2nd panel, rotated into portrait mode for web pages and IM.

This model, while a worthy purchase new being SIPS, it's old. Be glad you've had one, there were a lot of suckers who talked up CRTs still at the release of the 2005, and later ended up indeed giving into the widescreen LCD future, and consequentially ended up with today's TN panel majority market where it's hard as heck to find a reasonably priced SIPS like the 2005fpw was!

Strong color changes on a monitor are often because of cable damage or loose or bad video connections.

Check the cable for damage, examine all the pins, and tighten up the connections.
