DELL 2005FPW not recognized by Windows 7

I hoave just upgraded the video card from an old ATI to a ASUS 9600GT. At first boot Windows recognized the card and the 2005FPW display, and the adapter driver appeared as WDDM 1.1.

Then I decided to check for the latest NVIDIA drivers and installed them. To my surprise, the monitor is not recognized and left as a generic PnP monitor. Windows 7 does not take it to replace the PnP.

Any ideas? Does it make a difference ?

Shouldn't make a difference. Did you check under optional updates in Windows Update for a new 2005FPW driver?

I have gone thru an update and found a driver for the adapter, but not the monitor.

I will leave this aside for now. I have other problems with power management that really need to be solved.

Is it showing up in the nvidia control panel? That's good enough...

Doesn't support Windows 7 or even Vista for that matter.

The only difference I can see is that I cannot change the refresh rate to 75Hz through the control panel or Windows. I use PowerStrip to get around this problem, but I'm not sure if it works with Nvidia cards or if Nvidia can force this in their Control Panel.

Other then that, it works just fine.

Have you actually tried it? I've never seen a monitor driver that hasn't worked in a OS that is technically "not supported".

The monitor "works", as in displaying a picture and doing almost everything just fine.

It needs driver support to increase the refresh rate through Windows.

That didn't answer my question. I asked if you tried manually installing the driver I pointed to.
