OK. I have the 2005FPW installed up and running.

It looks MUCH better than any LCD monitor the stores were selling.

I have been working on it for an hour. The brightness was turned down from it's default of 100 to 0. The light is just like on my laptop.. MUCH TOO BRIGHT. As it is I am about to shut down. 1 hour.... I'm used to working on computers for 10-15 hours a day... well, work 8-10 and play 2-5.

There was zero documentation with the monitor. At Dell I found a one page spec sheet.

Any ideas on now to adjust this monitor so that it is not so bright?

Through your drivers is probably best.

If you wanty detailed instructions on how, you'll need to tell us if you have an ATi or NVIDIA card. :)

You completed step one which is to change the brightness to 0. Next you need to go into your videocard display driver and turn the brightness down to where you're comfortable. Mine's at -20. Finally you need to adjust your gamma also via your videocard driver. I adjust using system set of 2.0 although some people prefer 1.8. Load up gamma test pattern (several sites have one you can use) and adjust your gamma until until all the squares match up with their backgrounds as closely as possible. If you can't get the darkest set of squares to display as neutral grey, then you need to readjust the black level setting of your monitor via brightness control on your videocard driver. My gamma is set at 1.13.

Every monitor is different and everyone likes different looks so you need to set the settings to your liking.

JustAnAverageGuy,

nVidea.

I did play with the nVidea adjustments some last night. I also remember reading about software that helps adjust color temperature and other adjustments on LCD monitors.

I will find that software and try some of Naustica's suggestions.

Thanks for the response.

Naustica,

Thanks. After asking for help here I wondered about adjustments possible through the video card and did play a bit with it.

I will try making some of your suggested changes.

You are so right about people being different. My Wife loves the monitor. I'm glad it wasn't terribly expensive. Unfortunately, good monitors are hard to find now.
