First off, I have read multiple threads on people playing their xbox on the dell 2005fpw and it looking like crap, but after seeing rage187's xbox 360 on his dell 2405fpw, I thought there might be hope.

What I hope to accomplish is be able to have a lcd be used as my computer monitor, and a display for a dvd player, ps2, xbox, and hopefully someday the xbox 360. I would hook up all of these components and run that to the 2005. My main focus is to get rid of my tv so I can have the speakers in my room be plased so that it is optimal when I watch movies or am pc gaming.

Here are some of the options that I thought might work. (I just ordered the dell 2005fpw so using that would be the most prefered option.)

Dell 2005
-hook up my components to a receiver and hook that up to the s-video, and have my pc connected w/ dvi.
-hook up my components to a reciever that can upconvert and output to HDMI and use a HDMI to DVI converter and hook that and my pc to the dvi port in the 2005 with a KVM.
-hook up the reciever to a hdtv capture card on my pc and run that to the 2005.

Dell 2405
-hook up reciever to the component input on the 2405 and pc on dvi
-do the same thing with HDMI with the 2005.

LCD Tv
-not too many options needed here.

I am in the prediciment that I would think that the 2405 would be better suited for the tv aspect but with the 2005, I wouldn't have to upgrade my video card every week.

I would like to make my room a multimedia heaven but I have so many questiones that need to be answered before I invest too much money. Thanks for looking.

Your best bet by far would be the 2405fpw since it has component inputs (giving you much more flexibility with game consoles). Svideo is all but worthless on a PC monitor IMO.

The component inputs on the 2405 are pretty bad to tell you the truth. Anything in 480p/i (regular tv broadcasts) are displayed in the wrong aspect ratio, the settings on the monitor do nothing to fix this. So instead of the normal 4:3 it's displayed like 4:5 so everything looks really fat. 720p does display correctly however so if you're using something that can upscale to that res over component it would look ok. Your best bet would be to do what I do and run either a TV tuner or DVD program (I use TheaterTek) directly from the pc over DVI. You have much more flexability that way and the image quality is much better.

Oh yeah I guess some cards have VIVO, where you can plug something like a PS2 into one of the inputs and use a program like D-scaler to get it to display. I tried this with my 7800GTX512 but have no idea how to get it to work.

kravmaga, do you notice any delay when playing console games and running it through your pc to your lcd. Also I have heard of people not being able to play the captured video in realtime on full screen. Also, thanks for your guy's responces.

hes using the pc on dvi. component will never support hdcp so as long as he stays with a device that has component out hes fine.

I don't think my 2005fpw looks hot via a component to VGA adapter, so I say get the 2405fpw instead. Gateway does make a 21" widescreen that has HDCP over DVI though, it is priced in between the two models.

I will never use an OS that makes HDCP mandatory. Never. But I heard the gate way can support component in just fine and works as a lcd tv much better than the dells.

its not the os, its the content. if you dont have hcdp compatable everything, its not gonna work.

I heard that vista will require HDCP, but will all upcoming programs need this?
