ok guys, I just got my third replacement monitor from dell and it's an Aug A02 REv. the last couple have had various defects including dead pixels, scratches on the monitor fingerrpints... but this one had no defects ecxept that it has really bad backlight issues... Do I dare send it back again?? is there a way to fix backlight issues?? I'm one very frustrated dell customer! :disgust:

"really bad backlight issues"?

How often do you stare at a black screen? Get a at least a week worth of regular usage and see if it bothers you. I bet you wont even notice after a few days. Enjoy your movies, games, graphics, and prOn!

i know a lotta people here are incredibly picky...i for one, am not. seriously....FINGERPRINTS??? just wipe it off already!

my sony lcd does have backlight bleeding on the right side when the screen is completely black...however i really have to question why you're watching a completely black screen.

I just gave both of my 2005fp's a hug 😉

One has 4 dead pixels which even most detectives can't find. One is perfect.

😀

I use the one with dead/stuck pixels everyday and can't seee them on any colors unless I am within 6 inches of the screen.

Not to make things worst. Do you have wavy lines problem on the left hand side of your monitor? Myself and quite a few people are having problem with the A02 revision. We suspect that the whole A02 production is bad. You can really see them if you are using DVI. You can see the wavy lines when the background is dark gray or blue(like the login screen for XP).

My 3rd replacement is at a level that it is acceptable that I am not returning it. It has no dead pixels. It has very little backlight. I would return yours if the backlight is really bad. I know people say you might not notice. But, if I pay that much money(I know it is cheap compared to other brand), I want a rather perfect monitor. Just my $0.02.

Backlight problems...what the hell 😕

The only time your screen will be on and completely black is right when your motherboard POSTs.

How long have you had your monitor. As long as it is within 21 days, you will get a new replacement. Dell has 0 pixel policy.

You mean they will accept just one dead pixel as a basis of return?
That's good. It puts the pressure on the manufacturer.

They're reputed to do that within 21 days of purchase. Their official policy however is more than 6 pixels needed for returns (and never mentions the 21 days thing). So better check for dead pixels quick once you get it.

For backlighting issues, it's just a bright monitor. I can't believe you guys keep it on the default 100 brightness, because mines down to like 30. Otherwise it was like looking at the sun when I opened up any sort of white window. At anything under 50 brightness, there is pretty much no backlight bleeding on my Aug a02 rev. And like someone mentioned, I only notice it when I shut all my blinds and lights off and put on an all black screen. Hardly comparable to actual, normal usage.

If you return it within 21 days of ship/invoice date, you can get a no-questions asked refund or replacement shipped to you, then you can compare the two and they pay to have the other one shipped back. Outside of 21 days IIRC you still get the 3yr warranty, which requires a lot more dead pixels, and outside of 21 days you are subject to a refurb.

My August A02 is great except that there's like 3 dead pixels. I thought there was more but blowing on the screen proved they were just fuzz specs. But even with 3, I can only actually spot them using Dead Pixel Buddy on the all-black screen. It's still crappy there are some, but I doubt it's worth the hassle to get a replacement that may be worse. I do have 3 more days to decide though...
