Dell 2005 FPW poor performance

So I upgraded my Dell 17' flat panel to a 2005 FPW and it looks amazing! The only problem is everything is so so so sluggish now, browsing the web is horrible and video drops tons of frames.

I have a ati 9600 128mb, 5.3 catalyst drivers

I installed the dell 2005 fpw driver

I'm using dvi (tried analog and no difference) and am running at dells suggested 1680x1050 resolution

Any suggestions on how to get the performance back to normal?
 
What CPU do you have? Is performance still slow if you set the monitor's resolution back to 1280x1024 (which is what the 17" LCD was using, presumably)?
 
i fixed it 🙁 my own fault i'm a dumbass, i uninstalled the previous ati driver using their util but it left files/reg entries which slowed the system down, had nothing to do with the monitor
