If you were facing this decision, which would you choose? Consider that you will eventually purchase two more of the same for a triple monitor setup.

Dell 2001fp

Viewsonic VP201b

Please post why you'd choose either one.

thats dell 2001 btw, those 2 both use phillips-ips panel, both have same functionality.

so pick the cheaper one or the better looking one

Thanks for the correction (OP updated). They use the same panel... good to know.

I don't know about the Viewsonic, but after having the Dell for a year I have no regrets and would happily get another.

The Dell is $599. Shipped from dell. Best deal I can find on the Viewsonic is Newegg for 725.99. I can't decide either
I'm partial to Viewsonic LCD's (dual & triple VP191b's at work), but hearing (on this site and others) that the Dell 2001FP and Viewsonic VP201B use the same panel, then it's down to quality control and asthetics. At a $126 difference, I'm inclined to go with the Dell, especially if buying more than one.

I just got my 2001FP for $588.20 (includes shipping and MN tax). Couldn't be happier, especially for the price. I've decided to start a Home Theater project though, so my multi-monitor rigs will have to stay CRT for a while.

While they use the same panel the other components are not identical it seems. I have heard a number of people say they favor the Viewsonic. There was another guy that had both side by side and compared them recently. Search the forums (I am pretty sure it was in video).

I voted Viewsonic.

Yeah, I voted Viewsonic when I put the poll up (and I bought the Dell). I use VP181b's and VP191b's everyday. Prices being equal or even within $100.00 I would buy the Viewsonics hands down. With the rebates and price drop I just couldn't pass the Dell up. Plus, I'm spending less time computing *gasp*; more attention to other activities so I'm less inclined to pay a premium for a slightly better LCD. I'll regret that choice if I run into any quality control issues.

Where does the dell have it's ms refresh rate?? Didn't see it on that site/pages... It really comes down to what you're going to do with the display... Of the two, I'd go for the ViewSonic... Of course, I'd also check out Samsung (that's what I have now) since it has a contrast ratio that beats the sheit out of either of those two listed. With the 1000:1 contrast, white is WHITE, and black is BLACK...

I had the same problem as Akira34 in finding the Refresh rate on the Dell. All the reviews list it as a 16Ms but Dell gave it no rating at all. Not sure why really....I mean a 20" LCD with a 16Ms Refresh....you want to brag about that. Right?

I totally understand. With the deals Dell has most of the time they are hard to resist. I almost bought a 2005fpw this week just because it was so cheap (around $580 including tax and shipping with a %30 off coupon). If both are at the full retail price (2001fp and vp201b both at $799 at Dell) I would pick the Viewsonic. But since you can almost always get the Dell for much less price usually is a factor between the two.
