Dell 2001FP Problem with DVI

I just received my new 2001FP and I can't get any video through the DVI port. It works fine through analog. I reset the refreshrate to 60hz, and I still can't get any video through DVI. My video card is a 6800GT that I know works fine. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Refresh rate has nothing to do with it as the setting does not affect lcds. Sounds like either your dvi output is not working or you have not changed the input mode on the lcd. Test your dvi by using the dvi to vga adapter if need be.

I have a similar problem with the DVI port and an ATI card(actually 2 ATI cards)

The monitor will not wake up after going in to sleep mode when using the DVI port. I have tried two different video cards(Radeon 9200 and 9600) and 3 different DVI cables and their is no difference between them. In all cases once the monitor goes into sleep mode, it will never wake up again. The only success I have had is by turning the monitor off, unplugging it and then plugging it back in. After that the monitor will reset itself and work again until the next time it goes to sleep.

Also the POST screens usually don't display. Sometimes the screen flickers badly when loading Windows.

Search around there are a number of threads about this issue around the net.

Probably giving Dell a call tonight so I can get the round around for a while, before they send me a replacement monitor, or I will just return this one.

Too bad its a great monitor when it actually works.

You're hitting the little button on the 2001FP to put it in DVI-video mode when you switch to DVI on your video card?

What he said. You need to hit the DVI input selector on your monitor (these are the buttons on the bottom right of the screen), it won't autoswitch between inputs.

I had the same problem originally and finally got it to work. Here's how:

1. Make sure the BIOS amount of memory on the video card matches the video card.
2. Make sure the BIOS supports the pipeline speed (eg. 2x,4x,8x) of the new video card.
3. Make sure the monitor is set to the recommended resolution of the manufacturer (1600x1200).
4. Make sure while on an analog connection in Control Panel> Settings> Display Properties> Settings>[GeForce5700LE] that the timing mode is set to Coordinated Video Timing (CVT). The original choices in this menu are General Timing Formula (GMT), Discrete Monitor Timing (DMT), Coordinated Video Timing (CVT), and Fixed Aspect Ratio Timing for a GeForce5700LE. Other cards will likely yhave similar menus. The card defaults to the GMT setting. The first two are analog transmission rates. The last is for letterbox format for video editing.

I am having the SAME issue with my Dell 2001FP except my problem is even worse: my video card only has DVI outputs and no VGA output. It's an XFX 6800GT 256MB Dual DVI. I spent a couple hours on the phone with Dell's "award winning tech support" before I realized that I would never get help with this issue.

I have tried fiddling with my motherboard's ACPI/APM features to see how it affects it and I have tried using Dell's supplied VGA cable with a DVI-to-VGA adapter to no avail. Were you able to resolve this issue?

I have found that if I hibernate the PC (with the power button), I see the "Hibernating Windows" screen and then when I power it back on, I see the video and bios POST as well as "Resuming Windows" but once it's ready to show my desktop, 1/3 the time it goes black again (and the LED on the monitor stays green - it's not going orange like it's losing the signal - it's just displaying black). Sometimes this hibernate cycle works... I have also tried cycling through the monitor's input modes hoping the switching would slap it into submission - but no luck... And powering off the monitor via the power button doesn't do it either. I'll have to try using the "unplug it" method.

I just wanted to post an update to my problem. After reading Hugenstein's post about his issues with ONLY the DVI input, I uninstalled the driver for my monitor than used the dell-supplied VGA cable with one of the DVI-to-VGA adapters on my video card and am now using the monitor in VGA mode. When I checked the hardware manager, i see that the monitor is now displayed as "Dell 2001FP (Analog)" instead of ". . . (digital)".

It appears to be working perfectly now - it resumes from windows monitor-off just fine now. Is there anything to be lost using VGA instead of DVI? It was very bright in my room this morning when I was working on it so it was hard to see any real image quality issues but what should I look for as a problem?

Anyway, I am satisfied with using VGA at this point because it works but I sure wish the DVI input would work correctly.
