Dell 2001FP or 2005FPW

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway...

I'm trying to decide between these two displays, and will use it primarily for gaming. I'm a little concerned about the 2005FPW and how it will perform with it's wide display. I know there are games out there that are being designed to use this type of display, but what about all the games that aren't? Do they still look and play OK? Do you get black bars or does it stretch the image?

I'm leaning towards the 2001FP just because I am 99.9% sure that it will work just fine and I won't have to worry about my apps looking strange. My setup is a P4 2.8 with a Radeon 9600 256.

Any opinions? Thanks!

As I understand it, the 2005FPW will have black bars on the sides for games that don't support wide display. I have dual monitor rig using 2001FP and it works fine. Widescreen is not ready for the mainstream yet...

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Although it seems like I can find them both for the same amount, I either wouldn't be using the whole or the images would be distorted. thanks!

In all honesty, the black bars don't bother me so much and are more than made up for by games that do support WS. I can't really pin point what it is, but I just love gaming in WS. It just feels better somehow. But that's just me I suppose.

I fell in love with the 2005fp 😉 A coworker had a 2001fp, and got a 2005fp, and just seeing them side by side you think "wow it looks... small" and you're kinda overwhelmed, but playing on both after some time i really liked the 2005, widescreen was neat.

Either way you go, i think you'll be happy, personally i liek the WS.
