Hey all,
If anyone remembers, I was asking about a Viewsonic VP171B earlier...but now my dad has offered to buy the Dell 2001FP for me. So now im wondering, that 20% off coupon is pretty nice, right? From 999 to 799. It ends June 2nd, so should I buy now? Or should I wait a month or two in hopes of a better coupon? (This is a graduation gift to be purchased this summer.) The lowest price I've seen is 750, so we're not too far off right now...

Thanks for the opinions,
-Eric

Edit: For thsoe who think the 2001FP sucks...please recommend an alternate purchase :)

If your dad is buying it, and $50 isn't a big deal to him, get the 2001FP now. I have one and I love it dearly. I got mine for $612 shipped and haven't looked back.

still not convinced LCDs have superior IQ. yeah they have crisper text, that much i could tell. but do i really care how beautiful letters look? dont think so... the answer i need is whether they have better color for avi's. i dont mean this to be a flamebait as i am honestly still clueless

RossMAN, I'm not sure...I live in North Carolina. I didn't want to create a random account just to check that one thing though

Chu, I've been on dual monitors before, and I definitely like using a single, larger screen (or even a single small screen) better than 2 small screens. Maybe I'm just strange, but the gap in the middle is very annoying to me.

From what I understand, LCDs aren't as good as CRTs for movies/games. But the thing is I'm bringing this to college next year...so text clarity is extremely important for the hours of work I'm gonna get stuck with. I'm on a CRT now, and I do get a bit of eyesore after extended use.

I bought a Dell 1900FP LCD about 2.5 years ago for $690 (retail was $899).

I will NEVER go back to a CRT. Even gaming, I experience no ghosting.

Ooh, one more thing...apparently if I use my school's account, I can purchase it for $809. So it seems like if I wait and the good rebates never come back...I only lose $10 on the deal...I think I'm going to wait at least a month or so.

The colors on my 1800FP look pretty good to me, but I'm sure a nice CRT could easily be better. If you do a of text related work (programming, writing, etc) then an LCD is definitely worth it.

LCD's seem to have gone up in price. I got my 1800FP for about $410 and I could've gotten it for $395 or so if I had waited a day or two. You might as well buy it now.

Bought the 1901FP about a year ago for a very good price ($489?? I'd need to check out my records...25% off that price at the time). It is an excellent LCD and would highly recommend the newer Dell series. Any time I use a CRT I often exprience a few days of denial.

Was that 25% a general Dell promotion or a special coupon...? I'm pretty clueless about how to get the coupons >.< doh

They are easier on your eyes.

I've heard this, but I've also noticed it myself. However, my own experience isn't that great of an example because I've spent many more hours in front of my CRT than LCD's.

Can someone confirm/deny this?

The deal theNEOone is referring to was WHITE HOT MAGMA HOT 1901FP for $467 with free shipping. I remember the price because I debated for hours whether to buy it or not, in retrospect I wish I had. Later on I ordered 30+ LCD's (1901FP and 2000FP's) and made a tidy profit reselling them.

That particular deal was a fluke, it allowed a special (xx%) to be stacked on top of a 15% off coupon. This is a very rare occurence (maybe once a year).
