Dell 2001FD or Dell 2005FPW

My old Dell 1901 FP LCD Monitor served me well, until I replaced my old Matrox video card with a new Matrox with analog/digital output and found that the digital input on the Dell did not work. The 1901, being out of warranty, I decided to get a new LCD that would work with digital input. Tight budget question! Will the Dell 2001FD be OK (no games, photoshop stuff)?

Thanks.

I'm happy with the 2005fpw and will probably never go back to a non widescreen monitor. I felt the same way last year when I bought a widescreen TV

There have been very lengthy threads on this. Do a search.

Generally the consensus (beyond a few minority figures) is to go widescreen.
You'll read arguments about losing some pixels going widescreen but you'll actually see more in-game being rendered onscreen due to the aspect ratio.

If the pixel loss from the 2001 to 2005 bothers you (i couldnt imagine it being a problem unless you are going to count your pixels), then get the 2405.

I feel exactly the same way. 2005fpw on my PC (plus a 17" LCD for dual monitors) and a 34" widescreen CRT LCD. 4:3 just ain't my thing anymore ;) .

In a general sense, the 2005FW is a newer technology than the 2001FD. Going widescreen will lose vertical pixels and overall monitor hieght, but will gain by having better specifications.

If you want to go Dell, there is a rumor around that Dell will be replacing several of the monitor selections "shortly". I don't know how soon, but I assume they want to have "Vista ready" monitors... These new monitors will likely be better than either the 2001FD or the 2005FW...

The Dell 2005FPW only goes for $334 now, but I'm contemplating on getting it because of Microcrap setting the new video-out compliance on monitors for Vista. Vista is less than a year away and these monitors and all others can become defunct in the blink of an eye...

2005fpw gets my vote, but some people dont care too much for widescreen the 2001fp is a good monitor and has a higher res.

ya, I really dont think that is going to fly even if they do release this hdcp support monitors no one is going to have to buy new monitors just for vista plus lets say it does follow thru its going to get hacked very very soon.

Yeah aside from being Widescreen the 2005fpw is the newer panel of the two, with better brightness/contrast/colour/response time compared to the 2001fp.
