dell 2001 fp not displaying 1600X1200 32 bit color help please

Recently bought a dell 2001fp. The problem is that i can not get the monitor to display at 1600X1200 with 32bit color, but im able to get 16 bit color with the same resolution. Whenever i go to the display settings and try to click on the 32 bit color it reverts to 1600X1024. I have a geforce 3 with the 61.77 drivers, any help would be much appreciated

If you can't get the display resolution and color depth you KNOW this monitor can support, then the problem is either with your hardware not being able to support those settings, or it's the drivers. Make sure you've installed the Dell 2001FP drivers as well as the latest NVidia drivers.

What you're describing occurs when the driving video card can't push the pixels necessary. For example, the RAMDAC on a Shuttle SV24's onboard video can't handle 1280x1024@32bpp, even at 60Hz. Try lowering the refresh rate as well, and update your drivers and enable "Alternate DVI Frequency" - this may allow you to do it.

Who is the manufacturer of your video card?

Thanks for the responses i now have a lead on how to solve this. How would i enable alternate dvi frequency? Looking online i think its an ati only feature but i can be wrong. For 1600X1200 there is nothing else but just 60Hz. Manufacturer of my video card is hercules. I'm going to update my drivers and try to reinstall the drivers for the monitor to see if that does the trick.
