I bought this LCD back in 2000 when it was basically just released, and its worked fine for me ever since
then a couple years ago I bought a 2005FPW and run dual monitors

yesterday I was sitting at my pc as usual when suddenly the old 2000FP lcd went blank. The green lights on the front panel look normal but the screen is totally black, and switching inputs or trying to hit the menu buttons won't yield any results

tried powering it off and on, letting it rest 24 hrs on off etc.

I've read a little on goggle about these lcd's dying, but the lights on the buttons go weird and flash or all light up at the same time indicating a board failure. But this situations a little different.

so anyone have any ideas or should I just trash it and buy a new secondary lcd ?

Maybe the backlight/inverters's dead. I've heard of lots of Dells having faulty inverters (backlight drivers). If that is the case you may be able to see a very faint image on the panel, but hardly anything since there is no backlight. If you isolate your graphics card being the problem, then I would say just get another LCD. It's not worth fixing it. A good replacement would be the HP LP2065.
