Dell 2000 Pro Cd, How do I use it???

A buddy gave me a Dell 2000 Pro Cd with registration codes. However when I try to upgrade my homebuilt system I get a NON Dell Product error. Is there a way to circumvent this?

Currently running Win98SE

Thanks,

He had purchased a Dell last year and has since bought the full version of Windows XP Pro, he was doing me a favor and gave it to me. Damn talk about jumping to conclusions.

Not really. If you notice on the EULA and whatnot it will say that the software is for the hardware it was purchased with, no others. So using it on other hardware would be piracy.

Do I know how to get around the piracy protection of the Dell OEM software? No. Do I support companies that try to lock you into expensive software? No.

hmmm... this thread as started off on the wrong side...

The Dell OEM cds have a built-in anti-piracy mecanism in them. I think it must look for something in the bios to make sure that you are running a Dell. Basicly you are SOL. There is no way to install that on a non-dell system.

Sorry.

is that an OEM licensed win2k pro .. or is that a Restoration cd? .. if its a restore cd you dont want it anyway ..and it is possible to do this .. the same way you would install an HP Restore cd, into a nonHP or wrong model HP .. you tatoo the bios .. its not fun .. and probably only works 1/5 of the time .. but its possible heh ..
