Just talked to my friendly sales rep (Leia). She said the deal got "shot down, shot down hard" this morning.

The deal is dead. Long live the deal.

Heh, funny thing just happened, thought I'd mention it on here.

I called up cody, just for the sake of giving the deal one last shot (I REALLY need a new monitor), and had this conversation:

Cody: This is cody.
Me: Hi, I'm calling to place an order on a deal that you all pulled from your website too early.
Cody (suspiciously): Who is this?
Me: (My Name)
Cody (again, suspiciously): How'd you get my extention?
Me: (pause) I found it. (Side note: I wasn't really expecting this question)
Cody: Well, that deal was pulled Friday. Err, Thursday. We're only offering 20% off on Dell branded upgrades now. (Funny how he knew which deal I meant :))
Me: So you all don't mind just totally baiting and switching a bunch of people?
Cody: I really don't feel like we're baiting and switching people. (Oh, Cody doesn't feel like they are, I guess we should all forgive Dell.) Would you still like to make your purchase?
Me: Didn't you listen to me talk about baiting and switching? No, I don't. Later
Cody: Bye.

I figured it wasn't worth talking to a manager, but I thought this might also be a little entertaining to some of y'all. Better luck next time I guess.

What a bitch is all I can say. Promising stuff and not following through is a sure route to bancruptcy. Sure, Dell is large, but give them a few years, they'll get what they deserve. No Samsung 900NF for me, I'd rather have the Dell P991 anyway, this just gives me a reason to shell out the extra $25. I'd change that above post from giving Kim's manager good feedback to giving her hideously bad feedback. One thing I'll take away from this post is never deal with Dell.

Playmaker - As tempted as I am to give Kim "hideously bad feedback" I think I'll give her a little of both. Several AnandTechers/FatWalleters have benefited from her help but I think within a few hours this morning she realized the magnitude of "friends of Ross" and either she or her manager went back on her agreement which bites. She'll still get an e-mail from me but it'll contain both good and bad criticism.

Don't send Kim bad feedback, it wasn't the poor girl's fault -- you know she's sitting there wanting to give every one of us our 20% off but her manager won't let her because Dell and company is really taking this 20% off and free shipping (which, depending on the monitor you buy, could be more of a discount than the 20% off) up the ass. It's not Kim's fault that no one can get in on the deal anymore...

whoa whoa there
I really hope you weren't refering to me junthin. I in no way, shape, or form mentioned Anandtech or any other website. I didn't even mention Ross's name. The only names I mentioned during the whole conversation was Kim's and mine for the order. I also tried calling Kim several times but she never answered. I NEVER talked to Kim. Here's how the conversation went:
ME: hello I'd like place an order for a couple items, the only thing is I was told to talk to you or Kim concerning a %20 off deal with free shipping that ended a little earlier than it was supposed to.
Cody: do you have the item numbers
Me: yea, (read off the numbers)
Cody: I'm not showing the one for the monitor hold on
Me: ok
Cody: ok i got it, let me verify these prices with the manager, can you hold for a minute
ME: sure
Cody: your price is 318 shipped to your door, can i get your information
................

dude, don't go and get pissed off at me cause you didn't get in on the deal. I'm not saying somebody else didn't go and screw it up but it sure wasn't me.

One of the things that drove me away from Anandtech for a while was what I'm starting to see here now. Come on, the company ended the sale 3-4 days ago, some people still got the deal up til today (good intentions and all), and people are screaming about bait & switch!?! They had a good deal, lot's of people got it, they'll probably have more soon (they're always changing their promos).

Also, to those who are starting to point fingers, get real. A company the size of Dell (or Staples, Compaq, Kingston, etc) surely has 1-2 guys in a closet checking out different sites so they don't get too screwed on Hot Deals.

Deal ended 3-4 days ago? I think not. When I clicked coupon details for the coupon that was giving me 20% off the Samsung 900NF last Thursday, it said the deal expired 7/3. I wanted to wait until Monday to order to make sure I had the funds. When I saw the coupon had canceled early I was pissed and planned on calling Monday and complaining to the managers. I saw this thread and followed the advice of e-mailing Kim, who didn't even bother to write a personal e-mail for my situation (I know she got 60 or so e-mails, but that isn't THAT many). That is BS. Had she taken the 2-3 minutes to write about my problem and give me an actual reason I wouldn't be so angry. Newegg treated me much better then this and they aren't even an established company. Dell may think they can get away with marketing tactics like these, but in the computer biz you can be here one day gone the next no matter how large you are. Let's hope Dell gets what they deserve. They better still honor the 3 year warranty on the P991 I plan on ordering tho :) How does this monitor compare with the Samsung 900NF anyway? Am I getting a better monitor after all?

When I got my Viewsonic VG150 through the Business promo it came from Fontana, Calif. I live in Southern California, so it arrived in a couple of days.

That's debatable, there are a few good threads in Hardware and Video just search for Samsung or 900NF and you'll see them.

hondaboy: No, I wasn't talking about you. :p

I was referring to all the clueless junior members that blab too much or the even more clueless lurkers (they don't even have the sense to register) that go ahead and blab as well. (a la Officemax/NeoV fiasco)

Btw, I got in on this deal earlier today. ;) Just a FYI. ;) :D

Playmaker - I was just in General Hardware trying to see which motherboard would be best for my classic Athlon 540 and of all threads I ran across this. The Sony G400 is basically the same as the Samsung 900NF. Enjoy.

Thanks ROSSMAN. I wanted the P991 more in the first place, this just gives me the reason to get it for sure. Now, this Dell branded deal says expires 7/3. That means I can use it on 7/3 still correct? I don't want to order till tomorrow (er today I guess, after midnight).

You're welcome. I believe everything with Dell is based on CT which right now is Tuesday 7/3 12:47 AM so you missed 7/2 by 50 minutes. I would order it now before they pull yet another bait and switch. It's a pity they waive these great specials in front of our faces we all order THOUSANDS of dollars of stuff, nothing is delivered yet but hey their books look good at the end of the quarter. Yeah yeah I know it's a business they gotta make money but if something says it expires 7/3 you DO NOT expire it then honor it then expire it then modify it, that's just plain bs. /end rant.

Well, since the other offer is gone now, I have to go by what they display on the site. Here's the legal footnote for the 20% off Dell branded merchandise:
Valid for new U.S. Dell Home Systems Software and Accessories online purchase only. Offer does not apply to system purchases Prices, specifications, availability and terms of offer may change without notice. Taxes and shipping charges extra, and vary.

Here's the one for the new 10% off printers:
Valid for new U.S. Dell Home Systems Software and Accessories online purchase only. Offer does not apply to system purchases. Prices, specifications, availability and terms of offer may change without notice. Taxes and shipping charges extra, and vary.

I'd guess the other 20% said the exact same thing.

On Bait & Switch, that's where a company advertises something at a price, doesn't have any (or many) in stock, then once you get to the store, they try to sell you something more expensive. As of Friday, you all knew that the deal was dead - you didn't have to go anywhere to figure it out. However, Dell still honored it for up to 3 MORE DAYS. I got in on the deal Saturday. If you wait for the last second to order, you risk missing out.

Has anybody gotten this stuff? I ordered a sound card 6/28 (20% discount), received an email promising order # & tracking number "within 24 hours." Called, was told yes, was in stock & "just be patient." Just now (7/3) received an email with the order #, estimated ship date by 7/11 !! Guess they must really be swamped. To get hold of a live rep use: (800)449-3355 and enter ext. 43784 (esales) when asked to (long hold times, so don't use the non-800 #).

Where is it coming from? Texas? I don't think holiday will slow things down because UPS works on holidays too (I think).
