Dell 20" LCD keeps going black!

For some reason, a 20" Dell monitor (model# FP2000) that a friend of mine has keeps going black every 5 seconds. The settings in the Power Management section is set to "Never" for the monitor. He is using the analog connection, and has a Dell Dimension 2300 (Specs).

Tried reducing the resolution from 1280 X 960 to 1152 X 864 to 1024 X 768. No matter what resolution it is set at, it goes black after 5 seconds. The green lights stay green on the monitor, and when he turns the monitor on and off, and comes back..for 5 seconds.

He bought it off the Internet, and it was brand new in the box. It had not been used. He used for a month, and it was fine. But now this is happening. It is a 2003 model, though. So I guess it had been sitting for a while.

What could it be? Did the monitor go bad already?

well im sure he has but just making sure you said he lowered the resolution form 1280x960 to 1152x864 does that mean he has tried 1600x1200 just an idea but probably wrong

I think that res. was too high for his pc, but not sure. If it's not working at a lower resolution, I don't see how it could work at a higher one. Is that possible?

Sounds like a problem in the monitor's power circuitry. Something is getting too hot and shutting down.

I wonder why! 🙂
