Dell 1905FP vs. Dell 2001FP

I've been in the market for a new LCD monitor for a while now. Dell has had some pretty good deals on the 19" displays, I saw today, $379.65 shipped, the 20" display was $529.20. I've been used to a 21" CRT monitor, which was a Viewsonic, which was great for a while, but the colors always looked muted; so hence the LCD market here I come.

My only concern is the resolution, I feel like a native resolution of 1280x1024 just isn't enough. My 21" could do i think 2048x1920 or something like that, which I would never use, but i'm just wondering for those out there that have LCDs is it really worth $150 more for 1600x1200. $350-$400 is the ideal price range.
 
1280x1024 is my sweet spot at 19", and I haven't used anything larger than that. My lappy is SXGA+ @ 1440x1050 on a 14" screen. It makes me have to squint often enough that I wouldn't want to go higher.
 
By the way, you can get the Dell 19" Ultrasharp for ~$379 shipped (assuming you're in an un-taxed state) by using a coupon code. That's a pretty good deal.
 
They need to just give up on monitors & start making desktops plug into TV's...especially HDTV's. I know they can with Powerstrip, but I mean really make them to interface directly with the TV's.
 
Unless you have an HDTV, TVs in general have terribly low resolutions....like 500x480 or something like that. Methinks he's looking to spend $300-$400 on an LCD rather than $1500 - $5000 on an HDTV.
 
I can't imagine not working on anything less than 1600x1200, so I'd spend the extra bit for that 2001FP. They beautiful monitors BTW. A couple people in our office have gotten the 2001FP's... We mostly buy the 1905FP's though which is more than sufficient for most people doing everything things liks email and word processing.

Dell 2001FP's are sweet. I love mine. Also take a look at the 2005FP (1680x 1050) for some wide screen action. Both great monitors.
 
My only concern is that the 2001FP is going to be replaced by another model, since the 1901FP was replaced by the 1905FP. Plus its an extra $200, which I don't think is really worth it at this time.
 
For my, resolution has become critical. I've been running 1600x1200 for over 6 years and if I ever get stuck working for a long time on anythign lower it drives me nuts. I'm even crazy enough to work on my laptop with a 15" at 1600x1200, forcing me to squint to read the text sometimes. But since I do cad it's all worth it for the real estate and the definition. Not to mention photos... (oops, I just did).

Now that i have a wide at 1920x1200 I'm that much happier!

It's definately a personal preference... but I'd say go for the highest available in your price range.
 
I have that 19" Dell and I think it is GREAT.

the screen resolution is perfect for me. There is no way I could ever use 1600x1200. i do not do graphical work like cad, mostly just programming and web based stuff. If you want an everyday monitor, i say def. go with the 19". You will not be disappointed.

 
My only other thought is, since I don't want to spend the money on the 2001FP, i'll still have my 21" CRT if I need high resolutions, and can run it as the 2nd monitor on my system. I mean, I don't see any sense in spending a ton of money on an LCD when I know something better is going to come out in 2 years from now anyway.
 
yeah, but this logic will hold true 2 years from now as well. There's ALWAYS something better coming. I always just accept the fact that I have to bite the bullet and buy something now, and do alot of research beforehand to be sure not to get ripped off.

Otherwise I'd be waiting for something better the rest of my life, and ever really enjoy anything that I have.
 
I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 with a 1920x1200 15.4" widescreen. I like that screen a lot and love the space it offers.
 
1600x1200 is a necessity IMO, but if you don't ever need that high of a resolution go with the 1905FP. A good monitor is one of the few PC purchases that will last you more than a year.

Something better is always going to come out in 2 years, regardless if it is a CRT or LCD. Well maybe... Dell decided to EOL their 22" P1230 next month and didn't bother telling any about it. We just found that out today at work when we inquired about it. Apparently everyone needs to have LCD now and Dell decided they'd just force all their customers go that way.

I bought the 1905 over the 2001 because the default text size is easier to see. Was using a 17" LCD and had a hard time reading text and the 20" is smaller still.
