Dell 1905 FP with line across screen

Hello all,

I have a Dell 1905 FP, which has seen moderate use for perhpas six years. About a week ago, it suddenly developed a line across the screen, a bit below the middle. The line is not uniformly colored, and seems to vary according to the image displayed on the screen. It is strongly contrasting to the image, and very annoying.

Anything to do about it?

Also, I can't recall the commands to prooduce a white and black screen on the monitor. I figure it would be interesting to look at the line with an all white and all black screen. I am running WinXP Pro, SP3.

I had something like that happen to my GameBoy. Someone left it on with no cartridge and it developed a horizontal line on the screen that no longer worked right after that. I'd use something like powerpoint to throw up a black and then white image. Sorry, that's all I've got.
