I jumped on the bandwagon with the latest group of coupons and ordered Dell 1905 fp monitor for under $310 on May 20, 2005. They said estimated time of delivery was May 31, 2005. Now, today, I recd an email from Dell saying unexpected delay in shipping expected to be June 7, 2005 and if I can't wait, can cancel the order. Anybody have some inside scoop on the delay of this particular monitor? (pace, pace, pace, pace...)

well, guess what I actually like to know is, has anybody else ordered the Dell 1905 around May 20 or later and is also experiencing a delay in shipping or have you all gotten your 19" within a week or so? Thanks.

Maybe be they had a lot of demand, that was when they had the 35% off deal going.

Thanks for your input Bateluer.

Update - On Friday June 3, I recd email from Dell at 6:21 pm saying delay in shipping now will be June 14th and if I want to maintain the order, I need to contact them by June 7th otherwise my order will be automatically cancelled. I ordered a filler item in order to use the coupons to get the good price for the monitor and now if I cancel the monitor I will have to return the filler item as well which I don't want. I have either 14 or 21 days timebar to return the filler item. I tried calling Dell today but their customer care dept is closed until Monday. I am disappointed that Dell only gives you a one business day window to reply if you want to keep the monitor and then they'll cancel the order. I'm going to call them on Monday and cancel the monitor in spite of the good price and return the filler item, and cancelled the DPA credit card I opened with them to get extra discount. What a bother and disappointment. One of my friends say that people ordering the monitor at full price or higher price are probably receiving it first before me. I don't think I'll buy anything from Dell for a while again.

Well I ordered a 1905 on 5-13-2005 and received mine on 5-24-2005.

I really like the monitor and I too used the coupons and got mine for 281.00.

Why would you cancel your order if you really want a monitor for a great price?

Yeah, geez dude, you can't wait? Give me a break. You'd prefer to buy something else from a store that won't let you return the monitor unless it has 10 stuck pixels or something?

I waited a month and a half for my VX924 from Dell

I got 2 1905FPs here, they are sweet but they are not good for gaming. I had to swap one for the Samsung because the latency is better.

Knowing what I know now, I would have waited a month and a half for my 2005FPW. Its a great panel, even with the minor backlighitng issue. :)

sorry guys, but it just doesn't sit well for me to be told that I have to wait a month for an online order. also recently read that dell swapping in different lcd panels on some of the 1905 than the samsung one described in the anandtec 1905 review. also that it's not good for gaming by half the folks... I was willing to wait to get it next Tuesday which would have been 2 weeks+ but now to be told it's not shipping until the 14th - sorry. I'll just use the 15" lcd I have for the past 6 years and wait til I get one with more reliable and consistent feedback on quality, etc.. guess I was willing compromise what I read about the questionable quality for the good price and hope I would be one of the lucky ones getting a "good" one, but waiting a month on top of it is a deal breaker. can't believe i was willing to compromise...

I have a friend who recently bought 2005 fpw and returned it due to backlight bleeding issue and got a replacement with no backlight bleeding and no dead pixels and he's very happy. the backlight bleeding issue is very common on the 2005fpw and some folks are on their 3rd return.

okay, I called Dell Customer Care and talked with them and they credited me with the filler item so I don't have to worry about returning the item since it will past the timebar by the time the monitor arrives and they also adjusted my delivery from 3-5 days shipping to next day shipping when it's available. Apparently the 1905 monitor is out of stock and it's backlog ordered. Well, I have to give them credit for an excellent Customer Care experience. Will standby afterall and wait for the monitor.

I wonder if the delay has to do with the possible switch from them using the Samsung 20ms PVA panel to an AUO MVA panel, as suggested in this thread.

Really hard to say. I saw that thread and other ones like that. I think they're flat out of monitors for the time being. This morning recd still yet another notice from Dell that the shipping of my 1905 monitor will be delayed to June 21 and if I want to kept the order I need to contact them and say so or they'll cancel the order...

Well, we just received our order of 16 1905FPs to be used as upgrades on 8 of our MicroStation CAD workstations. But I know the order was placed awhile ago, so maybe it's simply high demand that's causing the delays.

Personally, I opted to keep my pair of 21" Sony Trinitron P1110 instead.

very strange. Friday I recd an email that delivery will be delayed until June 21 so I called Dell promptly and told them I wanted to maintain the order. Saturday morning (today) I recd another email from Dell that my computer was shipped on June 10th and should arrive on Monday, June 13th. Either the left hand of Dell is unaware of the what the right hand of Dell is doing or something is strange here.

update.

Monitor finally arrived on Tuesday, June 14, 2005. No dead or stuck pixels. Screen is extremely bright and the brightness control on the monitor doesn't seem to affect this at all. Been tweaking my ati video card to adjust - still tweaking - thank goodness for reset/default setting buttons since I tweaked it beyond recognition at one point. Played little bit Far Cry in the tropic islands and that seemed okay, sorry guys, I'm not a hardcore gamer. Played some movies: Remo William played very grainy, monitor really picked up on the grainy details. Under the Tuscany Sun and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was nice but seemed a tad dark but fixed this when I found the Overlay Tab of my video card which let me tweak the brightness, etc.. But if I sit few feet away from my screen when watching the movies instead of close to it nitpiking details like when I use it as a computer monitor, it looks really good from lots of angles. Still lots to learn about this monitor. My screensaver colors seemed slightly washed out or lighter, but think that's either because I haven't figured out how to tweak it yet or my smaller monitor compacted the colors a bit more. Been at this for 9 hours straight now and too tired to figure out or test anything else. Oh yeah, I tested for the panel and mine is an AMLCD (LTM190E4-L02) V017 which according to Google is a Samsung panel. Bottomline - this is a keeper for me for now. Somewhat happy with this overall. cursor got stuck couple times, one time I rebooted, another time I turned the monitor off and on and it came back - using monitor usb port for my cursor. ok, time to hit the hay. later. edit - almost forgot, tag on back of my monitor says Rev. A002 if that means anything to anybody.

sorry, typo, above label back of my 1905 should read Rev. A02 not A002. next day, still very happy with monitor. of course lot of my wallpaper is a little bit askew as the aspect ratio of the new monitor is different from the dell aspect ratio. played more far cry outside in the tropics, no ghosting that I can tell. looked at some more crouching tiger, hidden dragon since they have fast action martial art scenes and there is a touch of catchup movement motion (like you can see her leg here, here, and here) in some of the fast moves like when she does a cartwheel but it is not constant through all the fighting scenes and I kinda expect to see some of that in real life too. still a very happy camper with my monitor. but I've also mellowed out a bit in my later years and no longer expect absolute perfection in things.;)
