I just ran the test for my new LCD(Dell 1800FP from hot deals), and it seems I have 2 dead sub-pixels. They show up as a blue and a green dot when testing against a black background, and according to the test results that means that those two are locked in "on" position. Is that common with LCD screens and is that considered a defect on the LCD? Should I try to send it back for another one? Anyone else have two dead sub-pixels?

The LCD test was from Monitor Diagnostics.

Turn it on to a pure white screen, & crank the brightness all the way up.

Leave it overnight, see what happens.

My 2000FP had a dead sub-pixel that went away after one night being left on.

Brughtness has nothing to do with dead pixels, it's just a backlight not connected with the matrix in any way. It isn't a defect, err,, it's an acceptable defect by the monitor maker (just like misconvergence for a CRT).

Well, I turn on the PC and start reading my mail and just noticed another dead sub-pixel, red this time, that was not there this morning. Is this going to continue with a dead sub pixel every few days? At this rate I'm going to have really decide if I'm going to keep it or try to get an exchange for a new one and hope it's better than this current LCD.

Dead sub-pixel count: 1 green, 1 blue, 1 red Argghhh

That's not enough of dead subpixels. You need at least 10 for a warranty exchange!

I've always heard it said to do it, I'm simply passing on the suggestion.

Whatever the combination, it worked for me.

Have you tried applying gentle force to the screen in those areas? I had completely dead pixels that were fixed this way, don't know if it will work for sub-pixels, but you might want to try. I just put my finger under my shirt and then pressed with the shirt and held it there for a few seconds while the monitor was on. The pixels were on after i removed my finger and have been on since. This was on a 1900fp.
