Hi everyone,

My brother wants to get a laptop to replace one of his desktop systems. ie. 3500+ w/ 1g + 6800GT ...

Anyway we configured the following 2 systems both the same excecpt one has antivirus subscription that I can't uncheck when configuring it.

Dell Home 1705 $2022.75 (w/ 25% coupon)

Dell SMB 9400 $2180 (w/ $340 off)

Both have 4yr accidental/repair

1.6 C2D
2 gigs ram
7900GS video
Audigy HD
100g 7200rpm
DVD-RW
17.5" screen w/ true brite etc....

Were trying to cut cost so can the processor be upgraded later ?
ie. Dell T7200 2.0ghz c2d processor or a T2600 2.16ghz C2D

Can you add a 2nd hard drive in these systems ?

Can we get the extended/accidental coverage later ?

Is there a similiar laptop available for less ? I've checked HPstore & Toshiba and didn't find any...

Thanks for the advice..

Regards,
Jose

You could probably build your own from barebones for less but in terms of production this is basically as inexpensive as it gets.

Thanks,

I saw on dell's site 2 gig memory at 667Mhz and 2 gig's @ 533Mhz.

The 1.6Mhz C2D runs at 533fsb and the 2.0Ghz C2D runs at 667 fsb,

Do I have to get the 667 memory for the 2.0Ghz processor ? do they have to match ?

Can these Dell's be overclocked at all ?

Regards,
Jose

get the ram from a third party that will save you a bunch. You can run either speed of ram(at least on core duo) I have a 667 cpu and 533 ram. You can extend the warranty after the fact not sure about the complete care. I have an E1705 and it is very nice. I only have the 7800 but it is still fast.
