Dell 1704FPV or 2005FPW?

I want to get an LCD and I will not be using it for a lot of gaming. I would like to get either a Dell 1704FPV or a 2005FPW. I prefer the 1704FPV over the 1704FPT because of the viewing angles and also because I will not be doing much gaming. I wonder how the 1704FPV compares to the 2005FPW in brightness and viewing angles?

Thanks for any help.

I doubt youre going to get many answers saying 1704, because most people dont take into account price when you ask a question like that.

On the other hand, the 2005 is an awesome monitor which can be had for a great price, and mine has made me very happy, so I would recommend it thoroughly.

My opinion might be a little bit bias because I play a lot FPS games but I have used over 10 LCDs including the ones you mentioned. I didn't care too much for the 1704FPT because of the low response time but yes the contrast ratio is higher, however the 2005FPW is amazing, I used that for about 6 months until I got the 2405 which is even better. I don't think you could notice the difference between the 1704FPV and the 2005FPW, even if you could it would be slight and the size factor with the extra res and desktop space seems like it would rule it out as a better option. They all look great and are excellent monitors. In this case though I think bigger is better. The pixel density is 99DPI on the 20" and 96.4DPI on the 17" so they are pretty close with the 2005 having a slight advantage there, then the response time is 12ms on the 2005 vs the 20 or 25ms of the 17"
I don't think you would be unhappy with the 2005.

1704FPV IS NOT suitible for games
its refresh rate is 25ms and contrast ratio is 1000:1

so yea go with the 12ms 2005FPW

Btw, I will not be gaming much, but the extra resolution on the 2005FPW will be worth it.

I am currently using the 15.4" WUXGA on my Inspiron 8600. If I could afford the 2405FPW I would go with that one.

While I like my 2005FPW, recently there's a lot saying about the Gateway 21" widescreen LCD

It has HDCP support which is pretty much a requirement to play future HD contents on Windows Vista

I have a 32" Sharp LCD in my room right next to the PC. It is HDCP compatible in DVI and HDMI. Could I just hook it up to my PC to view Vista HD movies?

granted, 12ms response is better, but 25ms response does by no means make a monitor not unsuitible for playing games

How is a 1000:1 contrast ratio vs 600:1 contrast ratio? How will the picture quality difference be?

the 2005 is a better LCD overall that the 1704 but if you feel the 1704 is good enough for your needs then buy it.

The slight blur you experience on a 25ms moitor becomes annoying. The price difference between a 25ms and a 12(or 8/4/2)ms is worthit.

a.t.m. there are plenty of decently priced 12ms monitors.

Ideally you want to get below 16ms though. So say the so called experts who review the LCDs. Doesnt gurantee no ghosting but the lower the better.

The nicest panel I've worked with is the 214T.

But for it's usual price, people immediately reccomend the Dell 2405 instead, which is fine for games/movies, but for the kind of graphics work I do, I need a nice quality image.
