Dell 17" LCD for $279!!!

works for me.

it works under server not home&office

but if you go thru home&office and use 25% dellf + 35off350
you can get it for 241.75

I know the contrast ratio is better, but how easy is it to see text and stuff on a 17" monitor with a 1280 x 1024 resolution. I have a 17" CRT and 1280 x 1024 is almost illegible it is so small. Also the usual questions about response time and how is this for gaming? The 19" Ultrasharp seems like it would be easier to read at that resolution but is considerbly more ($629 compared to $369 before coupons). Can't even find this monitor on the Dell home site, only on the business site.

Also keep in mind...

17" CRT = ~16" viewable

17" LCD = 17" viewable

Yup, most people forget that. And it's probably more like 17' CRT = ~15" viewable. I'm guessing that the 17"LCD Im getting my mom will actually have a larger viewing area than her current 19" HP CRT. That thing has the biggest housing ever.

does it make sense to buy a LCD with DVI now for those few extra $$$, or would VGA suffice?
i'm building a new pc in the next few weeks....

DVI makes HUGE DIFFERENCE, all the Dell 19" LCD at my school use DVI, text is so crystal crisp. but at my house i have a 17" LCD with VGA which you can tell a big difference in clarity.

I got 7 of them last night, and sold all 7 to one guy on Ebay for $2 a piece.

so what are all the differences between the 1703FP and the 1704FPV?? I just bought a 1703FP for $256 after tax and shipping, but I'm wondering if it'd be worth the hassle to try to bug dell and get the 1704FPV since it's the same price.

I can't find anything on the dell website about the true difference other than the contrast ratio. How much of a difference does this make?

Also, does anyone know if the USB ports in the 1703FP are USB2.0? If not, it really might be worth getting the 1704FPV.

Thanks!

For gaming would the 173 with out vga and 16ms response time be better than the 1704 with dvi and 25ms?

If you just got it you can try, mine was shipped at the time and I was able to get a refusal number for it. I have not used an LCD for long so I can't say if the better contrast ratio is worth it. Look to this page for spec on the 1703.

http://support.dell.com/suppor...s/1703fps/en/specs.htm

It looks like it does support USB 2.0.

in response to drkclw, Yes the lower response time might be better, but he doesn't have the 173, he has the 1703, which shares the 1704's 25ms response time.

I have in my saved cart a dell 1704 for $275 all inclusive.......should I go ahead and buy it instead of the 1703....
any major difference?
I can wait for the 1-2 weeks of lead time....
the 17-4 is so new and I don't know if anyone has reviews on it

I was asking for myself. I recently purchased a 173 for my gf and wanted to pick up a fairly cheap LCD for me. I occasionally game. If the 173 is better for gaming I'd take that and pick up the 1704 for the gf. If not I'd simply get the 1704 for me.
