Do any of you have either of these monitors? I can pick up the 17" this coming week for $195.00 locally here, brand new. While the 15" is like $200+ shipped from Dell.

I did a Google search for the 17" monitor and it didn't have that many great reviews. I will not be gaming on it and I will be using it for work. At work I fix computers via a KVM switch. So mainly I just need it to be able to view desktops in a confined space. I am currently using a CRT and I have to strain my neck as it's located above me since we use the bottom area for putting the computers we're working on in. I was thinking I could easily have much more space if I had an LCD and had it in a ergonomic area where I am looking straight forward instead of upwards a little.

Any and all input is appreciated.

Hi Nocturnal,

We've been using the Dell 17" E171FP LCD for a few years now, as the main monitor for our family computer in the den. It's been a true champ of a performer. It displays text and images very well, and has suited all our needs as far as office/home work is concerned.

It's pretty much been left on 24/7 since arrival, and has never given us any problems, technical or otherwise. The only thing we're considering right now is an upgrade to a 20" widescreen LCD, and because of the E171FP's stellar performance Dell is on the top of our list.

As far as choosing b/w the 17" and 15" goes, I would personally go for a 17" LCD if I could swing it. For basic home use and office work it seems to strike a nice balance between considerations of space and cost, and if you're going to be using it everyday, it'll be nice to have that extra screen space to look at.
