dell 1545 DC jack problems (damaged laptop casing)

Hello forum.

I have a laptop (Dell 1545) that only chargers if you niggle the charger end in the DC jack around a bit. I figured it would be a DC jack replacement since we have clarified the adapter is fine.

The area around the DC jack is broken, the actual laptop casing is caved in slightly, and the jack is fairly sturdy.

Assuming the jack and adapter are fine, how would damage to that area of the laptop effect the jack? I cant imagine anything being loose, and theres nothing to pinch anything so...im confused 🙁

Anyone shed any light on this before I open it?

Kai.

If you hit things, they break.

Happens a lot if laptops take a dive and the power jack has to bear the weight of the falling laptop at an angle, even for a split second. Probably the number one killer of laptops. That's why Apple patented that magnetic breakaway connector - it's saved my ass a bazillion times. Of course, they won't license it to anybody else because they're jerks.

Repair for the 1545:

If the jack isn't visibly damaged, it's probably a broken solder joint.
