Delivery Driver Rant...

Okay... so... screw meter maids...

I am a delivery driver at a hoagie shop in a large college town. Our shop is located on the main street and the only parking available in the are is 1 dollar an hour meter parking. That being said, I basically end up with a ticket daily. It isnt bad... five dollars for the first violation, 2.50 if i get it to the police station within a half hour. Considering I work around 6 hours a day, I save at least a dollar, not to mention, since I usually am running food, I'm not going to pay a dollar so someone else can jack my spot.

Now, some days, I happen to be lucky and see the meter maid chugging down the street (he happens to be quite large) and I motor across the street and throw in whatever is in my pocket. He yells at me then tells me he still can ticket me... blah blah blah... I tell him he can't because it clearly says my meter is paid for and I walk away. Days I luck out, he usually comes back 3 or 4 times during my 6 to 8 hour shift. It is annoying, but if it is too hot or raining he never comes by at all.

Well... yesterday started a big summer festival in town... meaning the meter maids are in full force... and yesterday, instead of the usually guy, there is a new meter maid who happens to be younger and rocking a mean power trip. I get out before him twice and the second time he tells me next time he comes around he is going to ticket me for going over the maximum time limit on the meter... I naturally move my car to a different meter three spots away. New meter, new time limit. I also run two delieveries in the ten minutes he waits to come back and still park in a different spot. I go inside, knowing he should be coming back soon, and by the time Im out with change to throw in the meter, he is writing a 15 dollar ticket for going over on time.

I'm pissed. I take the ticket to the police station... ask them what the hell is going on. Initially, they agree. They tell me they can't void it, but I can appeal it. None of them understand why he gave me the ticket. Well... I fill out the appeal form and Im about to turn it in when he walks in the door. Apparently, he followed me. He grabs my form and starts writing his story and begins to tell this big story about how I cursed him out and I wasnt paying the meter and blah blah blah... the cursing was a bunch of bulshit... I call him out on it... he admits that I never cursed him out... but now the secretary is in a twist and she starts lecturing me and won't allow me to put something else on my form. They both tell me that there is no way the appeal will go through and they tell me to leave. I try to ask questions... they are really short and pissy. Then... he decides he is pissed im appealing and writes me another ticket for expired meter. I cant believe it. So I go across the hall to pay the ticket. I explain what happened to the other secretary, she feels bad and voids the second ticket.

WTF... seriously...

Cliffs
Meter maid on power trip gives me bulshit ticket.

I forgot to mention... The bas tard then proceeded to tell me that he is going to be looking for my car and he doesn't car if I try to put money in it... I'm still getting ticketed...

What I really want to know is can i get him on misconduct or something... Maybe get him something that will follow him when he tries to become a real cop. I know it is only a few bucks... but i'll be damn if im going to be treated like sh it by some meter maid on a power trip.

So, the hoagie shop doesn't pay your tickets or provide a restricted parking space? Time to find another cheap-ass job.

We all watch each other's backs... Ive had other jobs in town and by far this one is steps above the rest. Not to mention, I was promoted to manager a few months ago and get the pick of the shifts and a nice hourly wage to go along with any tips I get.

That being said... I'm not making millions and the thought has crossed my mind since a pizza shop closer to my apartment put up a help wanted for drivers sign.

You got tangled in classic bureaucratic revenue generating scams.

File a formal complaint with the department and hope someone actually cares enough to look it over.

i'd complain. you can also record him screwing around. i believe recording with audio is a crime if the person/people being recorded aren't aware they are being recorded. plain video is just fine though. record him writing up a ticket, walk up to the meter and show how there's still time left on the meter. that'll be some good evidence

Depends on where you are. Some places it only over the phone, some places only one person needs to be in on the recording.

That, and he said that he was going to ticket you, no matter what in the Polic Station? Nobody else heard him?

The day we played our big rivalery in football, I parked in a loading zone to deliever and came back with a 25 dollar ticket and a 15 dollar ticket...
Couldnt really argue it... it was clearly marked so on so forth... the owner did pay for the 25 dollar one...

He also occasionally throws me a five to pay for both of us if we were both there and got ticketed... other then that its on me...

Nope, none around here ( LA area). Lots of Quiznos and Subway, but that's not the same.

Where do you live?

I bet it's California.

The station probably needed the money and didn't give a ****** if they had to trick you for it.

I got ticketed once for supposedly parking in a no parking zone at my college. The no parking sign was erected the day after I got the ticket, so I went to the city engineer and got a 'To whom it may concern' statement regarding exactly when the sign was erected. I had to appear in court on a day just after I had finished a final. In court even after presenting my evidence the Judge still wanted to charge me for something. I had already started to walk out of the court thinking that it was a done deal. The Judge called out my name and you could have heard a pin drop in the courtroom. He informed me that I would be dismissed when he said I was through. Well I wanted to say that we were obviously already through, but kept my mouth shut, and by doing so probably avoided a contempt of court charge. Truth be told it's very easy to have contempt for public officials who are obviously total idiots.
