2) neither of those cars has 4 doors, or can comfortably seat 4 people
3) neither of those cars is a practical family car, a grocery getter
4) neither of those cars has AWD
1) For that money, it had better make a better case then those cars. Afterall, you are paying nearly $30,000 for a breathed on $14,000 Lancer. The 350Z and G35 are purpose built machines
2) Have you sitten in the back seat of a Lancer for a while? It's not exactly a lounge. The G35 will sit 4 as well.
3) Neither is a Lancer. Sure it will haul groceries, but it is far from a "family car." And both the 350Z and the G35 can haul quite a bit of groceries
4) I don't see that as being a plus. Neither the G35 nor the 350Z need AWD
1) it will outperform any of those cars. and it will also be cheaper to make faster.
2) it's a civic.
3) it's a civic.
4) *you* might not, but others may. AWD launches rock. it's also easier to put power down. not to mention all the other benefits of AWD.

the Evo has even less in common with the Lancer than the ITR has with the Integra.

Comfortable seat 4 midgets maybe. The Lancer isn't a full size car - the back seat is CRAMPED for even a 5' 10" guy like myself. It's G35, not 65. You're right in that it's for a different niche in the market, but it's a total waste of money for what you actually get compared to what you can get with the same money
yes, g35. it was a typo, get over it.

you'd rather spend $30k for a mustang huh? if you don't think that you're getting enough for yoru money, you obviously don't know enough about the evo.

1.)300 HP
2.)200 LBS-FT at 4000 rpm
3.)AVCS Like V-Tec
4.)A six speed tranny FINALLY what the Impreza's and WRX's really needed!!!

Granted it will be spendy at ~32k but show me a car that can beat it in that price range.

Right now the only thing that is close is the 350 Z and the Z06 Vette.

I cant believe you compared it to a Z06. May God have mercy on your soul.

Correction, 300 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm. Don't forget the DCCD (Driver controlled center differential), can leave it at auto to let the computer do it for you, or adjust it yourself to set the torque bias as much as 35/65 front:rear, LSDs on the front (SureTrac) and rear (mechanical), level-adjustible HIDs, very very sticky stock tires (Potenza RE070's, only other car that has them is the NSX Type R), intercooler water spray, in-dash shift light + buzzer (though those last two are more gimmicky than anything else, still cool stuff nontheless).

Yes call me a Subie fanboy too. I have a deposit and a spot on a local dealer waiting list for a 04 STi, can't wait. 🙂

You are right it is 300 at 4k.

I also have a deposit down🙂

well i was thinking more of a g35 sedan, which is a pretty decent familty car. (and cheaper and doesn't look like an economy car)
and more like $24 K for a mustang GT and then a blower and its still cheaper and faster in a line. plus the new mustang probably handles a ton better than the last one. and isn't cramped up front like these "pocket rockets" are. might even have bigger back seats to boot. if mitsu seriously thinks that they're going to have people in their 30s buying these things they're fooling themselves. its going to be afluent asian kids for probably 50% of the sales.

and i'd take a WRX STi above this anyway if i was looking at direct competitors. no shitty mitsu dealers and kwality.

Heck, an M3 can't even compare to a ZO6... but then again, the STi and Evo are going to be around 20Gs less than the ZO6. Totally not in the same category... especially with 15k in mods.

The Evo definitely is disappointing (this comin from a Mitsu fan)... they robbed us of the main thing that originally made the Evo a canyon dicing WRX killing supercar slayer... it's Active Yaw Control. They replaced that and the Active Center Diff from the 7 with emissions junk... :frown:

The thing that makes the STi so much better isn't the hp or any of that variable valve crap... (the JDM GDB WRX has variable valve timing)... along the same lines of AYC & ACD, the new STi has it's own version of that electronically controlled diff (DCDD?). It makes the car that much better through the corners.

Still, the nose piece is fugly... the wing in the back... it's functional... just like a big wing for the STi would be. Brembos, double synchro tranny, Recaros, twin scroll turbo. Breathed on Lancer it is not... the engineers have changed the chassis, powertrain, interior, etcetc dramatically.

I do hate the rice lights though... but I'd take it over a G35/350Z anyday... AWD plus turbo? I'll still test drive an Evo 8... it fixes a few of the things wrong with DSMs even though it's missing the crucial AYC. I guess driving it myself I'll be able to tell if that's a huge factor or not.

1) At least you won't look like a friggin' ricer while driving. The G35 and the 350Z are classy vehicles. The EVO is a boy's Gran Turismo 3 wet dream
2) What does a Civic have to do with this? The 350Z and G35 are made by Nissan. The Civic is made by Honda. The G35 and 350Z are RWD. The Civic is FWD. The Lancer EVO is Mitsu.
3) See above
4) Unless you live in the snow belt or go to the track every week, I'd like to see you make a case for AWD on normal city streets.

1) beauty is in the eye of the beholder. and unlike you, no every 20+ yo wants to drive a granny car. and yes, i too would take the G35 coupe over the Evo. but that's not the point. the point is performance. the Evo is a full second quicker, can launch better, and will probably outhandle the 350z and g35 on any road or mountain course.
2) Civic is a family car, a grocery getter, no? and i'm willing to bet that the evo has a bigger rear seat and an easier to access rear seat than the 350z or the g35 coupe, no?
3) see above
4) have you ever been in an eclipse GST and GSX before? have you ever driven them? if you had, you wouldn't be talking. and the AWD does make it a bit practical for a snowboarder like myself. i definitely could've used it at tahoe and mammoth. it can hold another person, two boards, and all the other gear quite easily.

the weather when i went

actually the civic is an econobox commuter car that can be pressed into family service, just like the jetta or the sentra or the *gasp* lancer. the backseat is hardly useable for adults if theres 6-footers up front, and really not that much better for small kids. a taurus or a camry or an accord is a family car (or those station wagons everyone runs around in nowadays)

Let me know if you want more. Granted the second one isn't hardcore rallying, but if you want that I can give you links.

Actually, my mom used to have a 2001 Civic. The back seat wasn't that bad (I'm 6'), and it wouldn't be bad for a couple with a couple of children.
