Hello Forum - I'm new but this is an excellent forum! Anyway, this is my system now:
Intel D850MV with P4 1.5
512 Rambus
Nvidia 5200 Ultra (I know...)
This is what I just purchased as an upgrade:
Asus P4c800-e-Deluxe (Canterwood)
P4 (2.4) because of overclocking possibility
Antec P160 Case and the Neopower PS
DDR400 (pc3200) Dual Channel (PDF)
As you can see, I am certainly hurting for an upgrade. I deliberately avoided the 775 Slot boards and the P925X chipset since it is said that the P925XE is the chipset to wait for. Also, with the requirement for PCI X16 Video Card and DDR2 Memmory, I was concerned about keeping the total cost of upgrading to a resonable level. But now I question if I am much better off with what I am buying at this time. For sure I won't be able to run DOOM3 and I even wonder about Far Cry.
I can send my purchases back and take a hit on shipping, so I am asking for the group's opinion as to whether I should send the Board/memory/CPU back and rock with my 1.5 a little longer, or if the upgrade I have made makes sense and is a reasonable and sensable Midterm investment.
