Exactly. The slimy part is a big give away. And just take a smell before you eat it. If the label says turkey but it smells like feces, it's probably past its prime.

Yep. Nose is what you use for this. That's kind of why you have one.

Nose says "nothing wrong here" then eat.
Nose says "PUKE" then don't eat.

Of course in the realm of habeneros it's reversed. "mmm, smells sweet, should eat!" is NOT correct.
