deletion explanation in deleted thread

Instead of locking a thread and explaining in that thread why it was locked, and then deleting the thread, wouldn't it make more sense to leave the thread so that the poster can see why it was locked? Rather than deleting it and then having to see a thread called "why was my thread deleted" and having to explain in THAT one and then lock it? Granted there will still be some "why was my thread locked" posts, but not as many as when they don't even see the explanation.

They're not going to not give themselves more work?

I've never seen a post about this. The fact that it keeps happening (I was specifically only thinking about in FI but I guess it applies elsewhere) and is an asinine way to do things didn't make me expect it to have been brought up.

Really, I can't see a point to explaining, deleting, then explaining that it was explained even though it was deleted.

It's not a repost.

He isn't asking the mods to edit each thread that they lock with a reason, he's saying that if they are going to go to the trouble of providing a reason then don't delete the thread so that nobody can actually see the reason.

"Why was my thread deleted? Why wasn't I at least notified about it?" - beatle

"You were notified in your message actually" - Zuni

The original poster wasn't really notified since the thread was deleted immediately.

Edit: Forgot the link to that exchange.

Why would Zuni respond?

Multiple personality disorder?
😕

But that's beside the point. They can't say "we answered you already" if they deleted the answer. And posting something that has already been discussed certainly isn't a "risk" to anyone.

Maybe a list of all the "issues" that have ever been brought up would be good. 🙂 Obviously nobody is able to search for things like that.
