If I turn off system restore in XP, will it erase all restore points? I actually want it to do just that, because there is a few spyware bugs that keep getting detected in the system volume/restore folder path.

Would it be safe to enable system restore again afterwards (with ofcourse a complete virus scan before so)?

Yes i believe turning off System restore will remove all the restore points.

Before turning it back on i would do a VERY GOOD SYSTEM CHECK for Virus/Spyware/Adware

You might also try the "Disk Cleanup Wizard" (under System Tools on the Start Menu). It has an option to delete all but the latest restore point and I'd probably run it once I turned off SR just to make sure I got them all.
