Deleted Partition

I am formating my hard drive and installing xp on my system, but accidentally had my external hard drive connected.

When asked which partitions to delete, I deleted them all, including the partition(s) on my external drive. OH NO

Now I cannot access any of my backed up files/software/pictures/books etc. on my external drive.

How can I reverse this deleted partition without buying software and/or losing my information on the drive.
