For some reason I deleted the "My Computer" icon from my desktop a while back. It's not in the recycle bin.

If I go into Windows Explorer and simply use "copy shortcut" it will only put a copy on my desktop, not the "real" version which when right-clicked will show computer properties and options.

How can I restore this icon to my desktop?

Thanks for any help.

I assume this is WinXP.

On the start menu, point to My Computer, right click on it and select "Show on Desktop".

Here's another, longer way:

Step 1: Right-click on Desktop and choose Properties (or open Control Panel and open Display Properties). Click on the Desktop tab

Step 2: Click on Customize Desktop at the bottom of this tab

Step 3: Choose which icons you want on your desktop

Thanks for the help guys.

Andy - I must be missing something, "My Computer" isn't in my Start menu. And yes, it's WinXP.

Right-click on your Taskbar, choose Properties, click on the Start Menu tab, then Customize, then Advanced.
