Deleted huge file, but space still used?

I deleted a 36.5 Gb file (an HDTV recording) on a drive, and as usual for very large files was prompted that it was too big for the Recycle Bin and it would just be deleted. Problem is, the space seems to be still allocated and hasn't been freed up. I tried emptying the Recycle Bin, rebooting, copying a few smaller files and deleting, running Defrag, Disk Cleanup... and I can't reclaim the space. It's a WD 80Gb SATA drive, WinXP SP2. I appreciate any suggestions!

Are you running anything Norton? Right click on Recycle bin and see if you get a "Empty Norton Protected Files" option.

like iamtrout said, if using norton, empty norton protected files.
you could also try doing a search on the file to see if it accidently got moved somehow.
