Deleted an important partition on accident. How do I recover?

I deleted a partition with partition magic on accident. I tried to use the undelete feature to get it back but it can't find it. I know the files are still there because the partition was never formatted and nothing was created over it. How do I get it back?

There are a bunch of recovery applications available. OnTrack makes a couple of different versions that do particular things (though it's expensive). Norton Systemworks' rescue disks have an "unformat" option that may work. You can get the rescue disks as a download from the Symantec website. The old Lost & Found that PowerQuest stopped making also can recover lost partitions. Disk Commander is another one that's available.

These tools are expensive, but knowing Winternals, they'll probably work for you.

Disk Commander

You should take a look at their other products too.

"In virtually any situation where you need to recover lost data from a Windows system, Disk Commander is the solution. Disk Commander salvages data from damaged, deleted, or corrupted volumes, and even from reformatted disks. Disk Commander performs an exhaustive
scan of the volume to locate lost volumes. All available data in the lost volume is then presented in an explorer-like view of files and directories so that you can copy it to a working volume elsewhere. Disk Commander also includes powerful tools for restoring volumes and for replacing the MBR. Bottom line: Disk Commander is a powerful, comprehensive data recovery solution. "
