I have my hdd on primary master, my dvdrom on secondary master, and cdrw secondary slave, and everything works fine.

however, with secondary master=cdrw and secondary slave=dvdrom, only the cdrw is detected by both the BIOS and windows

any ideas at all?

thanks

Oh crap, I just bought a Lite-On DVD-ROM from Dell. Does that mean when it comes in, I wont be able to set it as a secondary to the CD-RW?

I had some initial trouble getting my AOpen DVD and Lite-On CD-RW to play together nicely.

I have an Ultra100 add-on board. I have the DVD-ROM as the primary on its own channel on the Ultra100. The CD-RW is set as the primary on its own channel using the motherboard's built-in ATA33 controller. These drives would not work together on the same channel. The Lite-On will only use PIO instead of DMA so perhaps that's why they can't share the same channel.

This isn't an answer or anything but I have sorta the same problem where-by the hard drive in my computer won't work as a master and so it's a slave
