Going from 2 cores no HT (2c2t) to 2 cores with HT (2c4t) gives you a larger boost than going from 2C4t to 4 real cores (4c4t).

So HT does lower performance, but that chart clearly shows that it is better than nothing and in fact it is pretty close to adding an actual extra core. I believe the concensus is that HT adds about 70% of the performance of an extra actual core.

As for the other game, it is moot since 2 cores should be fine with or without HT.
