Dont underestimate life happiness. Theres more to the limited amount of time we have on this rock than what our title is or how much our paycheck is.

But, in the meantime hookers can go a long way to buying you happiness.

Dude!
Cashier at McDonalds is not really considered "financial services".

If your parents move to LA, you'll have to go with them.

If you can find a position that supports your desired lifestyle in LA go for it. The experience can help if you need to to back to SF.

Can you elaborate as to why you don't like SF?

The general mentality is how LA sucks and SF is the best. Here in east coast, everyone has SF fever.

What don't you like about it?

SF has a decidedly more eastern feel than LA, so i can understand that.

BUT:

I hated being in SF for the week i was there on vacation. really. i couldn't stand the city.

When it seems like the people in every city you visit don't like you...or you don't like them, consider the ONE variable that's the same in each city...YOU.

Maybe the problem isn't the city or its residents...the problem is YOU.

damn boomer fallacy. Your perception is your reality, thus there will always be one constant, you.

It won't matter where you go,
You can travel for days
One fact will remain-
You'll just be fritolays

This is something I've been thinking about for some time. I currently work in financial services and I really love the job. On the west coast, SF is the place to be for this industry so I'm torn. To make a long story short, I had really high expectations for SF and it's a great city for some but I don't think it's for me (actually you'd be surprised how many young people feel that way about SF). I am fairly familiiar with LA as I have family members living there and I went to grad school there so it's not a city I have no clue about. I think I can get into one of the companies I'm interested in LA but SF dwarfs LA in the number of quality financial firms. Sometimes I can't believe myself because I live in a large diverse city such as SF working a dream job that will open better opportunities and making six figs but I'd give that up to be living and eventually settling down in socal where I know it's a better fit.

Thanks

You'll want to find your wife where you'll be happy. Pick up your TVM calculator, create a weighted value to the marginal-dollar difference in utility and do the same for the marginal-year difference in utility between the two places.

Do the IRR and go live in LA when the next extra dollar you earn in SF won't be enough to create utility in-excess of living in LA.

You're in financial services, you know this.
