I just installed a new 250gb sata II hard drive (with NCQ capabilities) as a second hard disk which will just be used to store files (movies, music)! I use my first 160gb hard drive to install programs, and run widows!

Before initializing the new hard drive under disk management, i can convert it to a dynamic disk or keep it as a basic disk! Once i chose either settings, i cannot go back to change it the other unless the drive is empty! i have no idea what to do!

it says, dynamic discs can span multiple disks, (no idea what that means). I have no interest in creating any partitions on this new drive!

specs:
windows xp MCE
160gb hard drive (configured as basic disk)
2.8ghz dual core
all other regular things

here is what the help file has to say about basic and dynamic:

"When you attach a new disk to your computer, you need to initialize the disk before you can create volumes or partitions. Use basic storage if you want to create partitions and logical drives on the disk or use the disk with other operating systems. Later, you can convert basic storage to dynamic storage if you want to create a spanned, striped, mirrored, or RAID-5 volume. Dynamic storage uses dynamic disks, which cannot be accessed by computers running MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows XP Home Edition that are configured to dual-boot with Windows XP Professional or Windows XP."
